How to write Compliant & useful Safety Data Sheets - including the recent Annex II updates (EU 2020/878)
Over the years I have taught a number of safety data sheet (SDS) courses and, the key point I emphasise is that the SDS is the most important document (in relation to health and safety) that is provided to both the customer and workforce. It is, therefore, vital that the SDS is complete, concise and above all, correct. This has also been highlighted in the recent ECHA Forum Report on Improvement of Quality of SDS.
Furthermore, recent changes to Annex II to the REACH Regulation (EU) 2020/878, has increased the regulatory requirements for EU compliant SDS – and many groans of despair from SDS authors!
Therefore, the purpose of this two- hour training course is to help SDS authors improve their ability to write both compliant and useful safety data sheets.
During the session, I will provide a brief overview of SDS requirements and responsibilities. I will also show you how to use a basic knowledge of chemistry, toxicology and ecotoxicology to complete other sections of the SDS, thereby improving consistency. Finding reliable and useful data will also be included.
Furthermore, I will cover the recent updates to Annex II (EU 2020/878) and, how from a practical perspective these updates will impact your SDS authoring.
As with all my courses, I will use relevant examples to illustrate the theory.
[** If you require a more detailed SDS training course then please take a look at the live streaming class ‘Introduction to writing Safety Data Sheets’ **]
The following is covered during the session,
- A brief overview of SDS requirements and responsibilities.
- The 16- sections of the SDS – how they are related and the key issues to consider.
- How, from a practical perspective, the recent amendments to Annex II to the REACH Regulation legislation related to Safety Data Sheets (Commission Regulation EU 2020/878) should be implemented. This includes endocrine disruptors, nanoforms, ATE’s, SCL’s, M-factors and UFI’s.
- How a basic knowledge of chemistry, toxicology and ecotoxicology can be used to complete other sections of the SDS, thereby improving consistency.
- Useful data sources and how to evaluate data for reliability (i.e. should I use this data for my SDS?).
Throughout the webinar, examples will be used to illustrate key points.
Note: Although the focus will be on European SDS, the principles which are taught are applicable to other geographical areas of the world.
This live training webinar is designed to give you (SDS authors/recipients of SDS) the skills you need to write good quality and importantly, compliant Safety Data Sheets.
For those of you who are involved in writing European SDS, the updates to Annex II (Reach Regulation) which are covered in this session will also ensure you are fully compliant.
The course will also help you evaluate the quality of your supplier SDS which you receive, and ask the right questions when you have concerns.
- Training notes complementing the webinar (including useful links to resources).
- Copy of all slides used during the training.
- Copy of the live recording.
- Certificate of attendance (if required).
- You can also ask questions at any time during or after the training webinar class.
